August 7, 2023 - Heerlen recently gained a trendy ambiance with a bar vibe. 'Restobar G1 is innovative for the city. Not too chic, yet stylish by combining Renaissance and Art Deco elements,' say the owners René Wijnen and the Vijgen hospitality family.Restobar G1 - an abbreviation of the address - is located in a historic building at Geleenstraat 1. Kevin Vijgen, the son of co-owner John, was involved in the opening of G1. '‘Initially, we were a bit hesitant because you mostly see such an ambiance in larger cities.'’ But after the opening in May, that doubt disappeared. '‘Heerlen needs an informal place where you can go for dinner, a drink with a small snack, or just a drink.'’ The interior and the atmosphere are also a hit, as guest reactions show. '‘Not too chic and accessible to everyone,' says Vijgen.Materials provide a rich feeling
Dimmed light, warm colors, and designs executed in soft, touchable velvet fabrics give the restobar a rich feeling. Vijgen: '‘Influences from the Renaissance period combined with Art Deco style elements create a unique interior, entirely contemporary.'’ Specially designed wallpaper inspired by the Renaissance covers two walls. '‘Wallpaper of still lifes covers other walls with a frame around them, making it look like one big painting. The artworks reflect what we want to convey. Items we have to offer are incorporated into the painting, such as a cocktail, a beer, a wine, a lobster, and an oyster.'’ The golden border around the mezzanine is what the co-owner finds the most beautiful wallpaper. '‘Your eyes are naturally drawn to the golden ‘band’ with Art Deco patterns.'’
